Public consultation: Revised criteria for chemical building products

Nordic Ecolabelling are revising the criteria for chemical building products and you are welcome to comment on the proposal by June 4th.

The consultation proposal is sent to a wide range of consultative bodies and the input will be used actively in the further work with the requirements.

The most important changes compared to generation 2 are within these main areas:

  • Product definition: Mortars and plasters have been included in the scope of the criteria. In addition Paints and varnishes for outdoor use and industrial paints and varnishes have been moved from the criteria for Chemical building products to the criteria for Paints and varnishes. (This means that licences within these areas must be renewed via product group Paints and varnishes.)
  • Energy and climate: New requirements for manufacturers of cement/hydraulic binders and titanium dioxide.
  • Indoor climate: New requirements to measure emissions from the final product. The requirement is in accordance with the EU taxonomy and BREEAM v6.0.
  • Circular economy: New requirement for plastic packaging that promotes the use of recycled material.
  • Sustainable raw materials: New requirements for various binders.

The proposed criteria have been prepared by Nordic Ecolabelling under the leadership of the Nordic product manager Hamid Ahmadi.

We appreciate your comments and we kindly ask you to send them to us no later than June 4, 2024, via the submission form on our website, by mail or to post@svanemerket.no. All consultation comments are reviewed, and a summary of the received comments will be available at Ecolabelling Norway.
