Public consultation: Revised criteria for panels for exterior use

Nordic Ecolabelling are revising the criteria for Panels for exterior use, and you are welcome to comment on the proposal by April 26th.

The consultation proposal is sent to a wide range of consultative bodies and the input will be used actively in further work with the requirements. We hereby invite you to comment on the proposal by April 26th.

The most important changes compared to Generation 1 are:

  • Product definition: The criteria now include surface treated solid wood cladding, wood plastic composites (WPC) and aluminium used in fixing system for the installation of panels and cladding.
  • New requirement for responsible sourcing of virgin mineral raw materials.
  • New raw material requirements for WPC and aluminium.
  • Stricter requirements for share of recycled raw materials in mineral wool-based panels.
  • New and stricter requirements for energy use in the production of panels as well as the production of cement.
  • Stricter chemical requirements, including a ban on CMR category 2 substances.
  • New requirement for durability and expected lifespan.
  • New requirement for innovation.

The proposed criteria have been prepared by Nordic Ecolabelling under the leadership of the Nordic product manager Thomas Christensen.
