Nordic Swan Ecolabelled office machines are among the least environmental harmful products in their category, since they meet a number of environmental requirements.
The product group includes printers, multifunction devices and other devices. A multifunction device is a product that performs the core functions of a printer, copier and scanner. The product group includes both products for private and professional use.
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel criteria are aligned with Blue Angel criteria «Office Equipment with Printing Function (Printers and Multifunction Devices) – DE-UZ 219».
The requirements include:
- Recyclable design of the device.
- Minimum level of recycled plastic in the device.
- Energy efficiency and limits for energy consumption.
- Environmental and health properties of chemicals used in toners and inks. Heavy metals as well as substances classified to cause cancer, as toxic to reproduction or to potentially damage genetic material are forbidden, among others.
- Limits for volatile organic compounds and dust in order to maintain good indoor air quality.
- Limits for noise from the device.
- Social standards for the production process and compliance with due diligence requirements in the supply chains for conflict materials.
