The Nordic Swan Ecolabel sets strict chemical requirements for environment and health as well as packaging for Nordic Swan Ecolabelled detergents and stain removers.
In addition, the Nordic Ecolabelling promotes the use of sustainably produced renewable raw materials so that it will increase. At the same time, satisfactory performance must be documented through standardized testing.
The requirements include:
- Environmental properties (ecotoxicity and biodegradability) of the chemicals used in the products.
- Health properties of the chemicals used in the products. E.g., no use of CMR classified substances and various specifically problematic substances such as SVHCs and endocrine disruptors.
- Performance testing.
- Recyclable design of the packaging.
- Increased use of sustainable renewable raw materials including RSPO palm oil.

What does it cost?
When you apply for the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, you must pay a fee. Additionally, when you have a certification, you must pay an annual licence fee based on the turnover of the certified product or service.
