The Nordic Swan Ecolabel makes requirement of the building’s energy use, chemical products, building products/goods and a number of indoor environmental aspects that are relevant to the health and the environment. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel also makes requirements of quality management in the construction process, and the handover of the building to the residents and administration/operations.
The product group includes offices, educational buildings (schools, kindergartens and day-cares) and residential buildings such as small houses, apartments, row houses, student housing and homes for the elderly or for persons with disabilities.
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is a strong tool for constructing buildings that are better choices for the environment, the climate, and the occupants. The requirements promote resource efficiency, reduced climate impact, a non-toxic circular economy and conservation of biodiversity. They also promote buildings with a good indoor climate and of a high quality.
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is a good tool for compliance with the EU taxonomy Annex 1 for new buildings.
The requirements include, among others:
- Low energy demand (use stage) of minimum 10 % better than NZEB (near zero energy buildings).
- Reduction of the climate impact associated with concrete.
- Moisture control, daylight requirements and minimised exposure to harmful substances.
- Environmental and health properties of chemicals used in both construction materials and chemical building products.
- A material logbook to ensure traceability of the building components.
- Measures to preserve and improve biodiversity at the building site.
- Control of construction process.
It is possible to apply for certification of office buildings based on these revised criterias from February 15th 2023. We welcome applications for other types of buildings from May 15th 2023.
The 3rd version of the criteria is valid until September 30th 2024. For more information about this, please contact our teamleader for buildings, Ingerid Zeiner.
